SIR,- About a fortnight ago I purchased from a potato dealer a score of potatoes for which I paid 12d, and on examination I found fully a quarter of them diseased and quite unfit for human food. An instance having occurred a few weeks ago whereby a woman was someone heavily fined for having in her possession and offering the same for sale as human food, a quantity of unsound cocoa nuts, I wish to know why the Bolton potato dealers should be exempted from being similarly prosecuted.
