CALLOUS thieves attempted to break in to a Bolton charity shop -- just two weeks after it opened.
They tried to force their way through the metal security shutters at the shop, causing damage estimated at £1,600.
Now fundraisers at Derian House in Thicketford Road, Tonge Moor, are having to find the cash to pay for repair work.
Manager Collette Whittaker said: "Luckily they didn't get in and nothing was taken that time but the day before that happened a kettle was stolen from the back room.
"It is a charity shop and how anyone can steal from a shop that helps a children's hospice is beyond me."
The Derian House shop is also searching for volunteers to help out in the shop.
Collette added: "We are eager to hear from anyone with any spare time who is able to help out.
"All the work here is done on a voluntary basis and it doesn't matter if it is five minutes or a whole day.
"The Bolton community is very supportive."
