I READ with interest and sympathy the letter regarding the 'Drop in Centre' on Doyle Road, Hunger Hill.
During the summer shortly after the 'Drop in Centre' opened, I visited the house opposite. It was the school holidays and therefore a number of children were present in the street and in the centre. The noise was almost on a par with a school playground -- and some of the language was appalling.
Some of the children in the centre were drinking cans of liquid and casually tossing them when emptied into the street. Maybe litter bins are not provided in the centre. Although the drinkers were under the age of 18, many of the cans had contained alcohol.
Smoking appeared to be the latest craze both inside and outside the centre, together with racing up and down the street brandishing snooker cues -- a little dangerous on both counts I thought.
It would be interesting to know whether anyone from Bolton Council has visited this 'Drop in Centre' recently. No, I don't mean with Bolton Council's usual pomp and publicity; I mean casually, without prior notice. I think that they would find it considerably altered from when it was opened -- and I might say not for the better.
Why, if Bolton Council wish to provide 'Drop in Centres', don't they put them where they will be the least nuisance. After all if they collected the £1.5m rent arrears, they could custom build them the length and breadth of Bolton, or, even better opposite their own homes.
