A CALL will be made at tomorrow night's Bolton Council meeting for fireworks to be banned from sale in shops.
Councillors will be asked to urge the Government to end "the annual terror" caused fireworks in the run up to Bonfire Night.
A notice of motion will be put before the council by Labour Cllr Michael Kilcoyne.
He is a governor of Brownlow Fold School, Halliwell where lit fireworks were thrown through a broken window last week. He has also contacted Bolton's three MPs to take up the case with the Government.
If the proposals were brought into force, fireworks would only be allowed at organised displays. Cllr Kilcoyne said today: "I know some people will say that I am being a killjoy. But that is not the case, I enjoy a good time as much as anyone. Ideally, I would not want to stop someone having a box of fireworks in their garden.
"But if it ends the terror which fireworks cause to people and animals every year, then it is a price worth paying.
"In the area of Horwich where I live, people have been terrified of going out of their homes this year."
