MORE than 20 residents living on the Pewfist in Westhoughton are furious after waking up to find their tyres slashed.

cars parked outside houses all over the estate were vandalised causing hundreds of pounds worth of damage in a blitz carried out during the night on Halloween.

But residents are certain they were not the victims of over-zealous trick-or-treaters and claim they were attacked by mindless morons.

The residents say elderly and disabled people on the estate, who rely on their cars were left stranded because of the vandalism and many were in tears.

One man had spent nearly £300 replacing all of his tyres and had two tyres slashed on the following day.

The vandals had even written the words "We'll be back" in the condensation on one of the cars. One resident, Michelle Holiday said she had never seen so many angry people on the estate run by the Portico Housing Association. She told the Evening News: "There were a lot of angry people here and it could have been really dangerous if anyone had tried to drive off without realising their tyres had been done."

Another resident Alma Winterbottom, who needs her car because she is disabled, said she was very upset over the incident.

She said: "We are talking about pensioners and disabled people who were affected by this. What they did was absolutely disgusting."

Residential Housing Officer, Jean Watkinson immediately contacted the police who are investigating the incident. She said: "When the police officer came he couldn't believe how many cars had been done. There were a lot of people affected by this and a lot of people in tears because of it. I just hope the people who did this now realise the consequences of their actions."
