THE ghost of Timberbottom Farm, Bradshaw, seems to have been well and truly laid at last. Mr and Mrs John Heywood, tenants of the farm, said today that nothing unusual had occurred during the past few days - yet the two skulls which, when disturbed, seem to have been the cause of strange happenings in the farm during the last 150 years, were removed from Bradshaw Hall to their new resting place at Turton Towers about a fortnight ago. The formula for preserving peace at the farm seems to be to keep the skulls together, and to keep them with the Hardcastle family Bible, on which they have rested for the past 90 years.

THE Mayoralty has been determined at length, Ald Marsden having accepted the office, after considerable pressure having been brought to bear upon him to do so. To find occupants for the Civic Chair would seem to be one of the greatest perplexities of the Conservative Party. It was notorious last year that Mr Cannon was re-elected against his strongly expressed wishes; and it has required a considerable effort to overcome the reluctance felt by his successor-elect to the acceptance of the office. We are unable to say how this unwillingness to receive Mayoral honours arises, but as the Conservative Party may have to find us Chief Magistrates for many years to come, it must be the subject of serious concern to them.
