THE killer of Mary Povah has been warned by police: "We will track you down."

And tomorrow a re-construction of the attack which led to the 83-year-old grandmother's death will be shown on Granada TV.

Mrs Povah, who used to run a butchers shop in Lord Street, Leigh, was attacked as she was walking along Church Street, Leigh, at about 4pm on Monday, March 23.

The TV crew have used actresses for the key role of victim and offender and volunteers from the nearby Liberal Club for those who came to Mary's aid after the attack.

The re-construction will show that as Mrs Povah reached the junction with Union Street, a young woman approached her and attempted to grab the handbag she was carrying.

As Mary struggled to keep hold of her bag, she was knocked to the floor where the struggle continued. Despite being injured, Mary managed to keep hold of her handbag and the woman ran away.

The woman, white and aged between her mid teens to 20s, then got into a silver or silvery blue car which was seen to drive along Union Street, turning left into Henrietta Street.

Mrs Povah was taken to the Royal Bolton Hospital with a fractured left hip.

Surgeons operated and pinned the fracture but she never fully recovered from her injury and died on October 20.

Det Supt Ian Seabridge, leading the inquiry, said: "We are following up several good lines of inquiry which I firmly believe will lead to the vehicle and occupants being traced. I can assure both the female and her accomplice that if they do not come forward it is only a matter of time before my officers will undoubtedly track them down."
