NEW Centurions coach Ian Millward jetted into Hilton Park yesterday with a determination to restore Leigh's credibility, both in the town and in the game. "That's got to be our number one priority," the Aussie declared on his first visit to the stadium.
"The team finished bottom last season and that tells it's own story. The first job of myself and the players is to raise the profile of the club in the community and then get some credibility back with our performances on the field."
Millward, formerly with Illawarra Steelers, has come to Leigh with his wife and young family eager to take up the Hilton Park challenge. "My first job will be to put the building blocks in place and make sure we work from the ground up. The potential is certainly here for this club to make great forward strides. That's what I'm determined to try and achieve,' he says.
Millward, who has joined the Centurions on a two-year contract, will officially meet with the players next week when they report back for pre-season training.
"We have a lot of work to do, make no mistake. But if everyone pulls together we can be successful. I wouldn't have accepted the job if I didn't truly believe that."
The new boss also plans to meet the fans as quickly as possible and a fans' forum at Hilton Park is on the cards within the next two weeks.
