BOLTON MP Brian Iddon's call for the military to actively recruit Asians is obviously welcome. He is shocked that he has yet to meet anyone from his constituency's Asian community who has joined the armed forces.
This fact may not be as surprising to other local people, in view of the recent high-profile cases of active, cruel discrimination of members of ethnic minorities. The military must get its act together if it is to make positive recruitment mean anything. And it must be seen to do so.
