A KIND-hearted Farnworth youngster took to the roads to boost funds for leukaemia research - and raised £93. Bolton Harrier Louis Higginson, aged nine, was so disappointed to miss out on a sponsored swim in aid of the Elizabeth Morris Appeal he decided to do a two-and-a-half mile run to raise cash. His mum Alison said: "I work with Elizabeth's grandma at Alderbank Community Care Home in Kearsley so we have done a few things to help raise money.

"But Louis was away when we did the swim so he wanted to do something for them and as he's very sports minded he decided on the fun run. I'm very proud of him because he really wanted to help out. He would have been happy raising just £20, but £93 was really good.

"It was also educational because I explained what leukaemia is, so he could tell the other children at school when he was collecting sponsors."

When local girl Elizabeth, aged two, was diagnosed with leukaemia a year ago her parents set up the charity to fund research into the cancer.

They have so far raised over £8,000.
