THE £1 million revamp of Bolton's Victoria Square is on schedule and on budget, town hall chiefs have announced. As already reported, the square will temporarily be re-opened for Sunday's Remembrance Day ceremony.
But it will then be closed off again while other work is completed. The contractors George Cox and Sons will move off site in the middle of this month for the Christman and New Year period.
But they will return in January to complete the work around the charity canopy.
It is expected that the main contract will finish in February, although the replacement fountains will take longer to complete.
Inconvenience
Cllr Bob Howarth Bolton Council leader, said: "We recognise that there has been some inconvenience to people while the work has been going on, but I feel everyone will think it has been worthwhile when they see the new look to the area, especially when the trees come into leaf in the spring.
"The square is at the heart of Bolton and the work is part of an important drive by the town to keep it attractive and at the forefront of the shoppers' choice - more so now that the Trafford Centre has opened."
