DETECTIVES were today probing the "suspicious" death of a woman after her body was found at a house in Bolton.

The 58-year-old was discovered by her family in Hollycroft Avenue, Breightmet, last night.

This morning police sealed off the property while detectives and a forensic team carried out investigations inside.

A man and a woman were also arrested and were due to be quizzed at Astley Bridge police station today. Detective Chief Inspector John Tyrer confirmed: "This death is being treated as suspicious, but I cannot say at this stage whether this will be a murder inquiry."

The woman was found by her family inside the house, off Radcliffe Road, near Leverhulme Park, at 6pm yesterday.

Police and paramedics were called and her body was taken to Royal Bolton Hospital where a Home Office pathologist carried out a post mortem examination.

The cause of death had not been released early today and detectives were also tracking down the woman's family before revealing her name.

Boys

Two people arrested in connection with the death had not been charged as the BEN went to press.

Today neighbours said a woman called Ursula Whitehead had lived at the house for the last few months having moved from a nearby flat.

Next-door-neighbour Vicky Clegg, aged 21, told how a woman knocked on her door last night and asked her to care for two children who lived in the house.

But the neighbour went on to tell the BEN that the two children, both boys, aged eight and three, did not remain at the house and were now staying with relatives in the same street.

This morning police cars remained outside the council house, a police guard having been in place all night.
