PUPILS and staff at Harper Green School, Farnworth, raised £1000 for three-years-old Joshua Sharrock, when they held a sponsored pop quiz, pop concert and staff five-a-side football match featuring the "golden oldies" against the "young turks." Other fund-raising events included a staff versus pupils netball game, a sponsored silence , tombola in Farnworth Town Centre and a hike over Rivington Moor. Young Joshua's plight was brought to the school's attention by their caretaker, Eddie Mann, far right.
Joshua is a victim of Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome, a condition in which the left side of the heart has not developed properly.
Surgery
Although Joshua's condition has stabilised due to major heart surgery soon after his birth, he is currently being treated at Birmingham Children's Hospital and needs further major surgery in early 1999.
Pupils at the school handed the cheque over to Joshua, with his grandmother Val Molyneux and Martin Howlin, Landlord of the Hare and Hounds, Stoneclough, where an appeal has been set up for Joshua.
Money donated will be used to help with hospital visiting expenses and hopefully will provide Joshua with a special trip to somewhere exciting.
