SPEEDING motorists are putting Santa and his little fans in danger as he tours the roads of Westhoughton.
As usual at this time of year, Santa and his helpers from Westhoughton Rotary Club are out and about touring the streets and collecting money for charity.
Santa even has a brand new sleigh courtesy of recent sponsorship from Indespension Trailers.
But, despite all the safety precautions they take, members of the Rotary Club say they are horrified by the attitude of motorists who speed past in the dark.
Club spokesman Phil Ward said: "As we tour round the estates we wear protective yellow jackets, light our sleigh brightly and try our best to escort children to the sleigh in safety."
"But we have been shocked by a number of silly, irresponsible drivers who have been driving at anything up to 40mph in the area and raced past the float with no thought for the children, who probably will not have their minds on the road at that time."
And he appealed to motorists: "Please use common sense and slow down on estate roads and anywhere near the sleigh!"
Sweets
Santa is continuing his travels in the run up to Christmas, handing out sweets and talking to children, and Rotary club members say they keen to meet as many people as possible to wish them "Happy Christmas."
