JON Newsome's future as a Bolton Wanderers player will be decided this weekend.

The Sheffield Wednesday defender, who has made a big impression over the past month, was completing his loan at the Reebok today wth the two clubs still negotiating whether to make it a permanent arrangement.

Newsome says he would welcome the move while Colin Todd had hoped to have the deal wrapped up before this afternoon's game against crisis-torn Portsmouth.

But the lack of an announcement suggested Wanderers and Wednesday were still some way apart in their valuations of the 28-year-old defender.

Todd is also trying to work out a deal with Crystal Palace that could secure Paul Warhurst's signature.

The former Sheffield Wednesday and Blackburn Rovers star, whose family returned to the North last summer, has struck up an impressive centre-back partnership with Newsome and, like his fellow loan star, has also expressed a wish to join Wanderers full-time.

"My own personal target is to make the move permanent," he said enthusiastically.

His temporary deal doesn't expire until after the December 28 fixture at Port Vale, giving Todd extra time to negotiate a successful settlement with the London club.
