A WOMAN who has mobility problems claims the council replaced a fence she used as a support to help her get down to the FRONT garden gate - with a new one in her BACK garden.
Phyllis Bowes, of Gargrave Avenue, Johnson Fold, says that since 1990, when she moved into the council property, she used a home-made fence as a means to help her get down from the front door to her garden gate.
When children broke the fence, Mrs Bowes rang the council offices asking them to repair or replace it.
When they agreed to do the work she was delighted. But delight soon turned to disbelief when she returned home to find that council workers had given her a new fence - in her back garden!
Prisoner
"It's neither use nor ornament," she stormed. "It beggars belief that they would put one in the back when I expressly told them the front."
According to Mrs Bowes, 61, she has a walking frame but finds it difficult to use on the path. Now, without the support of the fence she's reliant on people helping her down the path when she needs to go out.
"But there's not always someone around and so I'm a prisoner in the house," she said.
A council spokesman said that an appointment with an officer would be made as soon as possible and her needs assessed.
