AN EVIL thug poured petrol over the head of a hot dog salesman and threatened to set him alight before robbing him of £1,500.

The victim was savagely beaten and knocked to the ground before being doused in petrol in a quiet street.

Bury police who are hunting the thug are appealing for information before the robber strikes again.

The 35-year-old salesman had just returned from working in Manchester when the attack happened on Saturday between 6.30pm and 7pm in Prestwich.

He was dropping off his van and trailer in Earl Street when he was struck over the back of the head with a blunt instrument.

When he fell to the floor, his attacker pinned him to the ground by putting his foot on the back of his neck, poured petrol over him and threatened to kill him if he didn't hand over his day's takings, totalling £1,500.

The man, who has not been named, was later treated at North Manchester General Hospital for bruising to his right eye and head, but was not detained.

The attacker was 6ft 6ins tall with a broad build and spoke with a West Indian accent. He wore a black balaclava and a shiny black three-quarter length coat in either leather or plastic.
