ANOTHER Bolton resident has found herself holidaying in an old folks home - but is delighted!

Earlier this year the BEN exclusively revealed how a young Bolton couple on holiday in Spain for a sunshine package break found themselves accommodated in a former hotel which had been converted to an old people's home.

But other local people are flocking to a care home nearer home - in Blackpool - for their holidays and are loving it!

Pennystone Court, owned by the North British Housing Association, opened its doors to holidaymakers recently and Bolton pensioners have been keen to book up. One reveller is 75-year-old Horwich woman Bessie Burgess, who has stayed at the resort every year since she was a child and was delighted to find out about the care home.

She lives in a sheltered flat in Horwich but after one happy holiday at Pennystone Court she plans to spend Christmas there.

"We discovered there was a need for holiday accommodation in Blackpool that could cater for people who need that little bit of extra care," said home manager Rita McKenzie.

"We have always provided a short-term respite care service for local people, so we thought why not offer a holiday package for those who live outside Blackpool.

"And, for some reason, we have taken a lot of bookings from people who live in the Bolton area."

There are no rules or routines at the home and visitors are encouraged to be as independent as possible, although there are care assistants available 24 hours a day to help with anything.

"We even help ladies to put on their make-up," said Mrs McKenzie.
