ANIMAL rescuers are appealing for a new home for greyhounds neglected after a dying man went into hospital.
The 10 greyhounds, including seven puppies, were left underfed on an allotment off Hatfield Road in Bolton.
The elderly man who had himself rescued the dogs could no longer look after them after a serious illness.
Horwich-based Lexus Greyhound Rescue was called in by a concerned relative and discovered the appalling conditions of the greyhounds.
Carol Parkinson, from Lexus Greyhound said: "They were in such a state.
"They have been in their own mess for days, possibly weeks.
"But the poor man who had them just could not cope any more. He used to sit in his coat all day with them."
She added he had spent money on new collars and leads but they had not been used.
The RSPCA has taken one of the dogs - injured in a fight which broke out among them.
Bolton dog warden service has also taken two dogs.
Lexus Greyhound organisers took the other seven dogs and they all desperately need to be homed. Anyone who can help should ring Lexus Greyhound on 01204 668589 or 411369.
