PARENTS who have been clamouring in vain to get their hands on a Furby cuddly toy for their little treasures this Christmas had new hope today.

At 4pm today the Littlewoods Discount Catalogue store in King Street, Farnworth, was due to receive a delivery of 50 of the toys.

Marketing manager Beverley Fear said: "People are screaming for these toys so we expect a rush this afternoon from parents keen to get their hands on one before Christmas.

Silly

"I've seen adverts in the papers selling the Furby at prices up to £200. Some parents will pay silly prices to make sure their children get what they want."

The Furby is a soft toy with an alien face. It speaks gibberish known as Furbish and must be taught to speak English. It also rolls its eyes, catches colds and cannot be switched off - unless you take the batteries out.

The Furby, predicted to be this year's "Teletubby", will retail at £34.99. The store is open until 8pm tonight.
