SUCCESSFUL "shadows" have been presented with their awards. The MODES initiative - Management Oriented Directory of Educational Shadowing - was started by the West Pennine branch of the Institute of Management in 1990. It is aimed at fostering closer ties between education and industry.
This year 13 first year "A" level students shadowed managers in local companies.
All the students who successfully completed the three-day shadowing assignment were presented with a certificate of achievement at the New Pack Horse Hotel in Bolton.
Winners of the competition for the best written report also received a trophy engraved with their name and a cheque for their school or college.
JOINT FIRST: Sarah Jackson from North Bolton Sixth Form College (shadowed Cedric Hodgin at Littlewoods Home Shopping in Bolton) and Sarah Whittle from Bolton School Girls' Division (shadowed Sharon Lawler, Carole Crabtree and Julie Stirling at Akzo Nobel Decorative Coatings Ltd in Darwen, near Blackburn).
SECOND: Asma Shahin from Oulder Hill 6th Form College, Rochdale.
JOINT THIRD: Ruth Gowland from North Bolton 6th Form College and Falguni Patel from South Bolton 6th Form College.
