COLIN Todd sent out an ominous warning to Wanderers' promotion rivals with the message: "We are going in the right direction."
His side rose to fifth place and just five points behind the second automatic promotion spot with a game in hand after yesterday's cruising 2-0 victory at Port Vale.
But, more importantly, was the quality of the performance which had the manager in raptures.
"I would say people saw our strengths in this game," he said.
"It is the hallmark of a good side to play in the manner we did and dictate a game for 90 minutes.
"We are as good as anybody and when we play like that we are capable of beating anybody. But it's important that we sustain it.
"We have shown a lot of consistency and character. The players are together and the team spirit is magnificent.
"As far as promotion is concerned all I will say is that we are going in the right direction. The only thing you aim for is to win your next game.
"The players will have two days off because they have earned it. They have been very professional over the holiday period."
Todd had a special word of praise for Dean Holdsworth who made one goal, scored the other and stood out with an impressive all round display.
"Dean got his chance because Arnar Gunnlaugsson has not been as fluent recently and he has grabbed it.
"He is a very good striker and he must continue to take his opportunity."
