A BOLTON woman has been named one of the top young engineers in the country.
Jane Fitzsimmons, aged 26, has been short-listed for the final of the 1998 Young Woman Engineer of the Year Award.
Jane is a resource analyst at Matra BAe Dynamics in Lostock.
The former Hayward School pupil gained an apprenticeship with BAe in 1988 and eventually achieved an NVQ (Level Four) in mechanical engineering.
She then worked as a logistics planner and projects officer until she reached her present post in August.
Alongside her work Jane is studying an MSc in engineering project management at Lancaster University.
Jane will discover if she is the national winner when she attends the awards ceremony in London on January 13.
The award will be presented by Her Royal Highness the Princess Royal.
