POLICE have renewed their appeal for information into the death of a man whose severed head was discovered on Christmas Day seven years ago.
The head was discovered by a man walking his dog at Linnyshaw Moss, Walkden, in 1991.
Despite lengthy and detailed police investigations, the identity of the mutilated victim has not been discovered.
The hacked-off head and legs of the man were found in dense undergrowth at the beauty spot close to the M61.
His dismembered head and legs had been put inside carrier bags before they were dumped. A thigh bone was found several days later.
But without the missing torso it has not been possible for police to discover the identity of the man or establish the exact cause of his death.
An artist's impressions of the man's face were circulated around the country, but despite those efforts he has remained a man that no one has apparently missed.
Anyone with information about the man's identity can still call Swinton police on 0161 872 5050 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
