PAUL Warhurst is out of Wanderers' third round FA Cup clash with Wolves on Saturday - come what may. Colin Todd is trying to sign the Crystal Palace centre-back, who completed an impressive month's loan in Monday's 2-0 win at Port Vale. But he is having to make alternative defensive arrangements for the big Reebok clash.
There is no way Warhurst could be eligible for the Wolves tie. Any permanent deal worked out before weekend would come too late to comply with the 'seven-day' registration rule while another loan arrangement would be of no use because loan players are not allowed to play in the FA Cup.
Nevertheless, Warhurst continues to train with Wanderers while Todd pursues a permanent deal that could see the former Blackburn Rovers star secure a return to his native North-west in time to face Palace at the Reebok in the Sky TV game on Sunday week! "Paul's loan is up but I'm hoping something will develop," the Bolton boss said, "if not before Saturday then next week.
"Even if we signed him tomorrow he wouldn't be able to play against Wolves."
Wanderers are determined to strike a deal with Palace after missing out on Jon Newsome who, like Warhurst, was a big influence during his loan stay. Negotiations reached chairman to chairman level but the clubs could not agree on a valuation.
