WE'RE beginning to get used to it, but it's no less upsetting. The recipients in the New Year's Honours' List have, to many local minds, one major absentee: Nat Lofthouse.
Although the modest Bolton Wanderers' president would be the last to press for a knighthood for himself, there are thousands of people in the Bolton area - and much further afield - who would.
But, there's still no sign of our Lion of Vienna in the current list. In fact, with one admirable exception, there's precious little recognition of local people.
The town of Bolton boasts some of the most caring, practical people in the country, and it is a mystery to us why some of them don't consistently appear in Honours' Lists. We reckon we could easily compile our own Roll of Honour- and still not scratch the surface.
