A NEW centre offering part-time education for adults is poised to open in Farnworth.
It will be based in the town centre when suitable premises have been identified and the plan is to have computer-training rooms, learning areas, an advice and guidance service and a free creche.
It is to be funded through a partnership between Bolton Council's education and arts department, housing department and a European Union grant.
And it will provide an opportunity for parents to study part-time while their children are being looked after by qualified staff and for all adults to gain new skills and qualifications.
Bolton Council housing chairman Cllr Noel Spencer said: "The new centre will be a real asset to Farnworth. I am pleased to see the partnership with community education is delivering a second chance for parents."
"The new information technology facilities will help ensure that the community can benefit from updating their skills and qualifications."
It is expected that up to a 1,000 adults and 100 children a week will use the new centre. It will offer computer classes, childcare training, languages, Access courses, help with basic skills and an open learning facility.
