The scheme involves fostering out the pets of women and children who have left an abusive home to go into a refuge.

As space is limited, there isn't any room for family pets and many times they have to be left behind.

Now PAWS for Kids is looking to recruit volunteers and pet foster families for the start of the scheme in early March.

Volunteers, who must be female, will collect the pets and take them to the foster parents - who can be male, female, families, couples, anyone who loves animals and can give them a loving, temporary home.

Both volunteers and foster parents need to be over 18 and will be trained up by the scheme.

Interested parties should contact either PO Box 329, Bolton BL6 5FT or telephone 01204 698999.
