A FARNWORTH physiotherapist has been invited to make a speech at one of his profession's top world events.
James Selfe, a lecturer at Bradford University, is to present his paper on 'the knee' at the world conference of physiotherapists which only takes every four years. This year it is being held in Japan.
Mr Selfe, of Leyton Close, has received full funding for the trip from his professional body, the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists.
Mr Selfe trained at Salford and went into clinical practice firstly in Lancashire and then in Australia.
When he returned from Australia he moved to Bolton and worked at Hope Hospital. In 1993 he went into teaching at Bradford University.
He is due to make his speech in front of his peers at a five day conference in May.
"It will be the scariest speech of my life," he said.
But despite his understandable fears he is looking forward to the trip. And he says he is immensely proud that his research paper was chosen by the conference organisers.
"It's something you dream about when you're training. I used to think I might go to the conference one day, but I never actually thought I'd be presenting a paper. It would be an understatement to say that I'm over the moon."
