ANGRY residents of Lever Park Avenue, Horwich say their "once spotless" road is being ruined by litter droppers and dog walkers.

They say efforts in recent years to attract visitors to the Rivington countryside have not been matched by the back-up services needed to keep the area clean.

They have already approached local councillors and called for action.

The neighbours say the long, tree-lined avenue was always a "spotless gateway" to Lever Park in the days when Horwich Urban District Council was responsible for keeping the area clean.

Toilet

One resident said: "We have had many run-ins with people who just seem to think Lever Park Avenue is one long dog toilet as they head for the park and Rivington Pike.

"The whole avenue is like an obstacle course with mounds of dog droppings and litter along its whole length.

"We are all sick of it, but we are afraid to give our names because some of us have been threatened when we have approached dog owners."

Another resident said: "We read in the Evening News this week about dog owners throwing bags of dog droppings into the trees in Lever Park. We can understand why people in Rivington village are outraged but we feel we have an even bigger problem.

"You shouldn't try to attract visitors to an area without having a large extra back up service to deal with all the litter and other problems that extra people bring.

"If the area can't be kept tidy, there should be no more publicity to try and get people to come here."
