ENVIRONMENT Minister Michael Meacher will visit Bolton on Monday as part of a touring global warming roadshow.
The town is one of only eight 'hot spots' throughout the country to be visited in January by the roadshow, which also features Friends of the Earth director, Charles Secrett.
It takes place at The Albert Halls, 10am, and although both Mr Meacher and Mr Secrett will be speaking, the aim is to give members of the public the opportunity to have their say.
The people of Bolton will be asked how they would tackle one of the biggest environmental threats facing the planet - global climate change.
Climate
The roadshow will tour the country to consult with the public over the UK's programme to cut climate changing pollution.
Members of the public who attend will be able to question Mr Meacher on issues such as public transport, energy saving and green energy.
The Government's manifesto commitment is to cut carbon dioxide emissions by 20 per cent by the year 2010.
Mr Secrett intends to reveal how this could create more than 230,000 new jobs in renewable energy, energy efficiency and transport sectors.
He will also be advising people how they can cut pollution and help protect the climate.
He told the BEN: "We are pleased that the Government is seeking the views of the British public on how to create jobs by cutting greenhouse gas pollution.
"We are already suffering the effects of a changing climate, but investing in cleaner, greener technologies to cut emissions can be good for all of us - for jobs, our health and the well being of future generations.
"We strongly urge people to go along and have their say."
