TO my surprise and delight, as I watched TV this Sunday, I saw the new Bolton Wanderers ground, and Nat Lofthouse.
It took me back a few years to the day I used to sell, from a tray, chocolate etc, on Burnden Park.
As I grew up, I joined the TA at Silverwell Street, 53 Field RA. As war came, I with the rest were drafted up north to Northumberland, in the draft were some of the Wanderers team.
My niece, who lives in Bolton, keeps me in touch, and I believe Silverwell Street has been demolished. It's a shame, but we must go forward like my football team.
I would like to see the new ground, but at present ill health keeps me at home, but I get all the news as my niece sends the BEN to me.
It would be nice to meet Nat. He said on TV about how good Tommy Lawton was.
I played against him at school football.
The first programme from the new ground is in my desk and I am very proud of it.
I am now 78 years old, and in the army days was a soldier pal of Frank Thompson the goalie.
