THE BEN came to the rescue when customers were left with dripping wet hair after a power cut at a Churchgate hairdresser's shop. Rooms in the Bolton Evening News' town centre building were turned into an improvised salon after power went off in Saks Hair and Beauty following an electrical fault on Saturday morning.
Staff were unable to operate hair dryers, leaving customers in the middle of their hair treatment. But thanks to the BEN, the ladies were rushed over from the nearby hair and beauty salon - which opened three months ago - to have their treatment finished.
One woman was ready to go on holiday just an hour later.
Suzanne Taafe, manager of Saks, said: "We had to run over to the BEN. "We couldn't send clients out with wet hair.
"It's a good job the Bolton Evening News helped out otherwise at least one of our clients might have missed her holiday."
But power was back on in the afternoon and all the customers affected have been offered complimentary treatment.
BEN security guard Tony Jones said: "It was hysterical. There were all these ladies running down the street with towels over their heads.
"Everybody took it in great humour. They came in with hair dripping wet.
"We felt sorry for them and just couldn't leave them like that so we were happy to help."
