TWO decisions in the next few days could determine the future shape of the attack Wanderers hope will lead them back to the Premiership.

Colin Todd and his directors will meet to consider Arnar Gunnlaugsson's transfer request while the hierarchy at the Reebok continue to pursue the signature of Brondby's top scorer Bo Hansen.

If they decide to signal their willingness to sell their 14-goal top scorer, they will spark an intriguing test of the marketable value of a player who emerged from an indifferent Premiership season to become the revelation of the Nationwide League before apparently becoming sidetracked by negotiations over a new contract.

Gunnlaugsson has accumulated a host of admirers with his scintillating performances but the two so-called 'frontrunners' - Nottingham Forest and Leicester City - don't appear to be interested. Ron Atkinson's replacement of Dave Bassett suggests there will be no bid from the City Ground while Foxes boss Martin O'Neill reckons he's not in the market. The enigmatic striker, recalled for the 3-0 victory over Crystal Palace, was back on the bench at Sheffield United when record signing Dean Holdsworth was preferred as Bob Taylor's attacking partner.

"Arnar Gunnlaugsson's transfer request had no bearing on my decision," Todd insisted. "I just felt it was going to be a physical game."

The manager was giving nothing away on whether the Iceland international would have his transfer request granted, nor was he giving any indication as to whether the £1 million Hansen deal would be successively concluded this week.

Wanderers, who don't have a game until the visit of Norwich to the Reebok on Saturday week, opened negotiations last Thursday with the Danish League Champions and their 26-year-old international striker. But Todd suggested there was still some talking to be done when he said: "It's all quiet."

Mark Fish left the wintry wilds of Bramall Lane on Saturday to team up with his South African team-mates for this weekend's African Nations Cup qualifier on the sunshine island of Mauritius.
