ARNAR Gunnlaugsson was transfer-listed today after saying he wanted to leave Bolton Wanderers. The 14-goal Reebok top scorer, who dropped a bombshell when he officially asked for a move eight days ago, has been told he can go. Wanderers boss Colin Todd confirmed the club's decision but assured the player that his wish for a move would not affect his status in the squad.
"He has asked for a transfer and as a result he will be placed on the list at his own request," the manager said. "But while he is at the club he will be treated in the correct manner as he has always been treated.
"He will still be part of a squad that is trying to win promotion."
Todd meanwhile is still pursuing the deal he hopes will make Brondby top scorer, Bo Hansen, a Bolton player. "I'd like to get something resolved and I'm hoping it will come off."
For now, in-form Wanderers are determined not to allow a lost weekend halt their title surge. They have an unwanted fortnight break due to Bristol City's refusal to reschedule their Reebok Stadium clash to this Saturday.
The fixture is due to take place on March 27 but is almost certain to be called off because of international commitments.
Because it has not yet been postponed the Football League cannot step in and set a new date and the West Country club argue they would be at a disadvantage this Saturday due to injuries.
An extended rest is the last thing Wanderers wanted after an 11-game unbeaten run which has made the rest of the First Division sit up and take notice.
Saturday's triumph at Sheffield United, Wanderers' third successive league victory, lifted Todd's men to third and the manager cannot hide his frustration at the enforced break.
"We would have liked to keep the momentum going with a game on Saturday," he announced. "But Bristol City wouldn't agree to play the game and the other game we've got to fit in, against Norwich, won't be played on Saturday because we're playing each other a week later. "It's so annoying that we'll have two games to fit in and we've got a free day on Saturday.
"All we can do is get our training done and prepare properly for our next game against Norwich."
"The players will have some time off before coming back next week to prepare for the next game."
The floating fixture at Norwich has been rescheduled for Tuesday, April 20, kick off 7.45 and means Wanderers face a tough late season run of six matches in 22 days.
