A BOLTON amateur football club's plan to sell its two pitches for private building projects has failed. The Secretary of State for the Environment, dismissing an appeal by Wyresdale AFC against Bolton Town Council's refusal of panning permission for residential land off Inverbeg Drive, Breightmet, said the scheme would be a serious blow to the amenities of nearby residential estates.

January 18, 1949

TO avoid congestion in certain streets, mainly in the town centre, a plan for unilateral parking in Bolton was submitted to the Minister of Transport. This scheme has now been confirmed (with some modifications). Signs are to be erected to illustrate on which side of the road parking is permissible between the hours of 8am and 8pm, with certain exceptions. Parking is to be prohibited in certain roads and streets, except on certain sides on specified dates. Victoria Square is not affected.

A DREADFUL discovery was made in Soho-street yesterday; the body of a female, bearing marks of violence, was found in an unoccupied cellar. It is said that her name is Lonsdale, that she was a widow, and addicted to drink.

THE total and immediate repeal of the Income Tax, condemned as 'unequal, unjust, and especially obnoxious to the trading class', was demanded at a public meeting at Wolverhampton, last evening.
