PARENTS will have to wait a further two weeks to find out if their child can go to the secondary school they have chosen.
Councillors have agreed to delay the letters of confirmation due to go out on February 5 to prevent any confusion.
Officials will now send out letters to parents of 11-year-olds hoping to go to local authority controlled schools, changing the wording of a council booklet.
Assistant Director Barry Scanlon said education chiefs want to change the booklet for next year and it is only fair to allow parents applying this year the new explanation of the complicated system.
He said: "It is a technical adjustment and there will be no change to the policy or the allocation process.
"It is just in case someone has not fully understood the policy, they will be able to review their list of preferences.
"There is no reason whatsoever why they should change but we do not want to be faced with floods of appeals next year when we tighten this up."
Final letters to parents will now be sent out on February 19.
