DETECTIVES hunting the killer of a frail Leigh pensioner today made a new appeal for information.
Officers investigating the death of 83-year-old mugging victim Mary Povah believe distinctive details of a Ford Fiesta car could hold the key to the case.
As reported in the BEN, Mrs Povah died last October after failing to recover from an injury she received during a street attack in March.
She was attacked by a young woman who then got into the front passenger seat of a car on Union Street at 4pm on Monday, March 23.
Police have issued a photograph of a car similar to the one they are seeking.
The Fiesta was glacier blue, only manufactured in 1982 and 1983, and had either a Y, A or B registration plate. According to a witness, paint was peeling from the bodywork in certain areas revealing grey undercoat.
The woman who attacked Mrs Povah was white and in her mid-teens to mid-20s with light brown hair.
Police want anyone who knows the owner or user of the car, or the woman responsible for the attack, to call the incident room on 0161 856 7284 or 7282.
