PRINCE'S Trust Volunteers have helped to improve the grounds of a local primary school. Leigh Team 1, from Wigan and Leigh College, developed a business plan for their project to enhance the grounds of Leigh CE Infants' School. The project, part of a 12-week Personal Development Programme with the Prince's Trust, in association with Groundwork Wigan and Chorley, was a great success.
Matthew Leese, one of the volunteers, said: "There are many benefits that both myself and other team members have gained from the PT-V course, for example, communication and working with others.
"I feel that the various skills gained on the course can be adapted into my working practices and the other members in the team can use them as a foundation to help look for work."
Local businesses were keen to offer their support. Wallpaper Supplies, Brown's DIY and B & Q donated plants and equipment for the work, which took one week to complete.
Team Leader, Ann Kenrick, said that the team's latest project, LEAP - a housing project for young people - is a team challenge to renovate an end-of-terrace house.
