I AM writing to ask if any of your readers can help me trace descendants/relatives or know anything of a John and Martha Elizabeth Hewitt.

I know very little about them, but as far as I know Martha lived at The Cottage, Church Lane, Harwood, Bolton, and died there in 1944 aged 89. I understand her husband John used to be an art teacher in Manchester, and in his retirement wrote a book on Dutch artists, and he may have died in Bolton around 1950, also in his 80s.

Martha had at least two children from her first marriage, a son who lived in America and a daughter, Ethel May, who lived for many years in Vancouver, Canada. Ethel returned to England in 1949 and died in 1960 aged about 77.

Any information on this couple, however small, would be of interest to me.
