A NEW anti-speeding crackdown will target reckless motorists in Bolton.
The campaign will hammer home the message that driving just a few miles per hour above the speed limit can have a major impact on the severity of injuries in accidents.
Police are joining forces with the Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions in the new initiative.
It will focus on the dangerous difference between driving at 30 miles per hour and 35 mph.
Greater Manchester Police force road safety officer Insp Brian Ritson said: "Lives can be saved if drivers adhere to the speed limits and where necessary reduce their speed even further, especially in residential streets or near schools."
He added: "We will be actively enforcing the speed limits across the area. There is now good evidence from camera sites that accidents can be reduced and to supplement fixed sites we have invested heavily in mobile camera and laser equipment."
At the official launch of the new campaign tomorrow, relatives of children hurt in road accidents and a motorist will endorse the appeal.
