FANS of Leigh Centurions have put their hands in their pockets and bought their own player! The Leigh Independent Supporters Association (LISA) have raised enough money for coach Ian Millward to land exciting Aussie backrower Jamie Kennedy on a one-year contract.

The paperwork has been completed in time for the player to be included on Leigh's Challenge Cup register.

And Kennedy, 25, is so keen to link up with Millward at Hilton Park that he is paying his own air fare in a bid to figure in Sunday's Cup tie against Humberside amateurs Norland.

"He is a terrific signing for us," said a delighted Millward. "He's always been one of my top targets.

"He has pace, good hands and an excellent workrate and with him and Heath Cruickshank in the second row we have bags of penetration in the pack.

"LISA was only formed a few weeks ago with the express purpose of raising money for new signings. "They have pulled together local businessmen and I know they will not be disappointed with Jamie Kennedy."

A former Junior Kangaroo, Kennedy has first grade experience with Canberra Raiders and then three years with St George in Australia.

Last season he was a virtual ever-present for Hull KR, scoring six tries in 29 games.

Millward took his close season signing to six when he also swooped for prop Chris Parr on a free transfer from Rochdale Hornets.

Twenty-seven-years-old Parr, formerly with Oldham, played 21 times for Hornets last season.

"I saw a few videos of Chris in action and was impressed," reveals Millward.

"If I could guarantee that Tim Street and Dave Whittle would be fit for every game this season I would have no worries. But I can't, and seeing this game is all about strength in depth, I had no hesitation in getting Chris to join us as soon as I knew he was available."
