A CHARITY abseil has been planned in memory of a doctor who died last year. Dr Bob Harrison, who worked as a GP for 12 years at Bolton's Swan Lane and Greenland Road practices, collapsed at his home in Over Hulton with a heart attack in October, aged just 39. Staff at the practices have got together to raise money for one of Dr Bob's favourite charities, Bolton Hospice.
Dr Bob, as he was known to his patients and friends, was a popular GP and was said by his colleagues to be dedicated beyond the call of duty. He left behind his wife Karen and two young children, Oliver, aged six and Abigail, just 11 months.
Twelve practice staff, Karen Harrison and two people from Bolton Mountain Rescue will take part in the abseil down the sheer face of Anglezarke quarry on February 7, and they want to raise as much money as possible.
Swan Lane practice manager Margaret Burn said: "Dr Bob hoped to retire at 50 and work part-time for Bolton Hospice where he regularly visited patients. We all felt it was an appropriate charity and we want to do it as a tribute to him."
