JAMES Arkwright is the surprise wing choice as Leigh Centurions set off on the Challenge Cup trail against Humberside amateurs Norland at Hilton Park on Sunday. Arkwright is normally regarded as a stand-off but has won a place on the Centurions' right flank for the third round tie.

Explaining his decision, coach Ian Millward said: "The selection of James on the wing might surprise some, but I feel he can do a good job for us in that position.

"He's sharp on his feet and looks quite threatening. This is the ideal time to give him a run in what for him is a strange position."

New Aussie recruit Heath Cruickshank also gets a spot in the starting line-up in the only other change. Stuart Donlan has recovered from a calf injury and retains his place at full-back.

Although Millward has done some homework on Leigh's White Rose Premier Division opponents, he admits he's more concerned with the form of his own team.

"It would seem that Norland's strength is in the forwards where they have a couple of ex-pros. Our number one priority has to be to win that battle first. But to be honest I've concentrated more on our game than spend too much time worrying about Norland. We know we're making progress, but the Oldham game showed just how much more improvement we need." Millward hopes to have Aussie backrower Jamie Kennedy in town by weekend, but he won't figure in Sunday's tie.

Sunday's line-up is: Donlan; Arkwright, Hadcroft, Purtill, Ingram; Patel, Dean; Street, Murray, Whittle, Cruickshank, Liku, Fairclough. Subs: Bowker, Kendrick, Costello, Jenkins.

Leigh's away game at Bramley, originally scheduled for Sunday, June 13 at 3pm has been switched to Friday, June 11 at 7.30pm. Headingley is being used on the 13th for a cricket World Cup game.
