BOLTON'S Woman of the Year Luncheon next month is likely to be a lively affair.

Not only is Houghton Weaver funnyman Norman Prince back once more by popular request, but the other main speaker is former broadcaster Clare Bowles - an Irishwoman with a lovely sense of humour.

The event, at the Bolton Moat House Hotel on Friday, February 19, has become a "must" on the local social calender, especially for females.

Its main purpose - as well as providing an entertaining afternoon with good food and company - is to highlight the achievements of Bolton women. And this year the Woman of '98 will be chosen from a fascinating field of entrants.

Last year, Margaret Willis from Farnworth took the title (and the £250 prize which she donated to local drop-ins) because of her work in the field of mental health.

She tells us that she is very grateful for "a wonderful year" which has allowed her to effectively raise the profile of mental health. She passes on her thanks to the public, to the committee which selected her, and to the BEN for publicising her efforts.

The Luncheon is organised by a committee headed by the Mayoress of Bolton, Rita Fairhurst, already well known for her practical fund-raising. And tickets (which are going fast) cost £13 each, available from the Mayor's Office on 01204-522311.

The event raises cash for the Mayor's Charity Appeal, and is again sponsored by Bolton firm William Hare Ltd.
