THE Chief Constable of Greater Manchester Police David Wilmot has denied allegations of "millions of pounds" being wasted in the force.
Mr Wilmot hit back after allegations police bosses had broken European law and ignored financial regulations while spending millions of pounds of public money, including £50,000 for a shower and ladies' loo in the Chief Constable's suite at Greater Manchester Police HQ.
Mr Wilmot said last night: "I wish to make it clear that whilst there are some serious issues under investigation, there is absolutely no suggestion whatsoever that millions of pounds have been wasted."
But he did confirm the matter was subject to a disciplinary inquiry and would not go into more details.
Other allegations include £100,000 which went on designing a new logo for the force and that "waste" had meant the police authority had to find an extra £3m which it would have spent on general policing.
