THE emotive language of your report on the widow who wished to mount a picture of her husband on his grave, and could not have a free choice of colour for the headstone, indicates considerable sympathy for her.
Might I also ask for sympathy for the views of the many people who already visit and tend graves in Walmsley church yard and who find great peace in the restful and harmonious surroundings there?
The ruling which strives to ensure that gravestones are in keeping with the local stone is surely one which will promote such harmony; and perhaps pictures will last longer in the home, or in the heart.
I believe the Church is doing its very best to create a tranquil and natural refuge in which we can each focus on our own memories of those we have lost.
