JACK Straw's indication (BEN, January 25) that there is to be a general review of the legislation on sexual offences which will look at the issue of the "Bolton 7" prosecution, would come better from a government which had not - just like the previous Tory administration - chosen to ignore the last review of this area of law.
The last report on sexual offences by the government's own Criminal Law Revision Committee, has lain gathering dust in some Home Office pigeon-hole for 15 years.
Had it been heeded and acted upon, the "Bolton 7" would never have seen the inside of a courtroom.
Before embarking on the time and expense involved in another inquiry, the Home Office should take action on the last one. If the Bolton MPs would like to press Jack Straw on the matter, they will find the neglected report in the House of Commons Library under the reference Cmmd 9213.
