A CHILDREN'S trip to feed the ducks at a Bolton beauty spot turned to horror when they found a dead dog dumped at the edge of the water.
Mrs Jacqueline Curnock of Harwood had taken her daughter and a group of her young friends to the Blue Lagoon at Belmont, where people often stop by the roadside to feed the wild mallards.
One of the girls screamed that there was something horrible in the water and Mrs Curnock found the bloodstained body of a dog, which had been wrapped in a quilt and bundled into a plastic bag.
"The back end of the dog was on the grass verge and the head was submerged in the water," said Mrs Curnock. "The quilt had blood stains on it and there was also blood in the bin bag. I dread to know whether this poor dog suffered. It was a very upsetting sight, especially for young children to find."
Animal lover Mrs Curnock said: "I just hope the cruel and disgusting person who did this reads this. Whoever did it should be named the BEN's Rat of the Week."
