I know I am not the only one who is disappointed with the general apathy that surrounds St George's Day. Is being English really that bad?
I love celebrating St Patrick's Day, Burns Night and all the other "British" festivals throughout the year and, this year, I'm also determined to celebrate all that is great about being English on April 23.
If you're like minded, you'll love our BBC GMR salute to St George on April 23 at the Willows Variety Centre in Salford, where all proceeds will go to the Alzheimer's Disease Society.
Guests include Laurie Ash and the Mark Gillbanks Orchestra, Maxine Barry, Jo Lester, Lynne Fairbanks, Roy Chappell, the Hanky Park Duo and, top of the bill, a surprise guest - Mr X from Across the Water!
I'm appealing to all Fettlers to come along and be proud to be English. You'll enjoy a fabulous night out, and the first 150 ladies will be given a complimentary everlasting English rose to remember the occasion.
Tickets are £5. Contact the Willows on 0161 736 8541 and, this year, celebrate all that is English.
Fred Fielder, BBC GMR
